Save Walworth Police Office Front Counter
Walworth is the only police front counter in Southwark. But under new plans from the Met, half of all police counters across London are set to close, with just eight staying open 24/7. This follows the closure of the police hub in Canada Water, which has already reduced access to local policing in the north and east of the borough.
With crime already 31% higher than the national average in our borough, and phone snatching reaching an all time record high, Southwark Liberal Democrats are saying that this is a backwards step. Many residents are increasingly worried about their safety, and trust in the Labour Mayor’s record on crime continues to fall. Closing the last place people can walk into and speak to an officer will only make things worse.
With our campaign to save Walworth Police Station’s front counter, and our pledge to double community safety officers, it’s clear only the Liberal Democrats have a plan to keep our streets safe.
Save Walworth Police Station Front Counter
We, the undersigned, support the campaign to keep the front counter at Walworth Police Station open 24 hours a day. This is the only police station in Southwark which is currently open 24 hours a day and is essential to our community and to helping ensure people's safety and security. We urge the Metropolitan Police to keep the front counter open.
