One-way solution to London Bridge congestion

A one-way system’s been introduced on Leathermarket Street, after almost a year’s campaigning by the local Liberal Democrat councillor, Damian O’Brien.

Two-way traffic had contributed to increased congestion, road-rage and ‘curb riding’. Transport for London initially sought to make the one-way system lead onto Bermondsey street, but after pressure from Cllr O’Brien and others, realised it would be better to ensure it flowed away, thereby reducing pressure on the busy and commercially thriving street.

Cllr O’Brien said, ‘On a personal level, I’m just chuffed to see it introduced as it’s taken a lot of time and a lot of work to get it delivered. Bermondsey Street’s one of the most popular routes in the area, for both tourists and locals alike. This will be good news for cyclists and pedestrians, and it’ll also mean less congestion, air pollution and time-wasting for everyone.
