Southwark Liberal Democrats have written to the 5 local MPs and council leader urging them to condemn the "dangerous" rhetoric from Keir Starmer, in which he said the UK risked becoming an "island of strangers"
40% of residents in Southwark were born outside of the UK - making it one of the most diverse boroughs in the country. The Liberal Democrats urge in their letter to return to the values that make Southwark such a thriving place - openness, tolerance, and inclusion.
On Monday Labour, Conservative, and Reform MPs all rejected a Liberal Democrat amendment in Parliament that would have given asylum seekers the right to work - a motion that had previously recieved unanimous support in Southwark.
