Southwark Liberal Democrats Announce New Funding for Night Time Patrols

Southwark Liberal Democrats have today announced an additional £600,000 will be spent by Southwark Council on the Night-Time Uniform Patrol Service. The Service works to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour at the times it is most prevalent – between 6pm to 2am. The funding will enable the Service to continue through until at least August 2027 whilst the new Joint Administration works to clean up the borough.

Last month, Southwark Council’s new Executive announced their plan to make Southwark affordable, safer, and greener. Today’s new funding announcement marks a key part in the Council’s journey into making the borough a safer place to live. Community safety has long been a key priority for the Southwark Liberal Democrats and improving it was a key pledge in their 2026 manifesto. This is reflected in the new Joint Administration, where Liberal Democrat Councillor David Watson was appointed Executive Member for Community Safety and Engagement.

“Under Southwark Labour and the Labour Mayor of London, crime and anti-social behaviour in the borough and across London spiralled out of control. Time and time again on the doorsteps and in my inbox, residents are telling us clearly that safety is their top priority. Southwark Liberal Democrats promised to act to clean up Labour’s mess, and today’s announcement is a first key step to achieving that promise.

Southwark Council’s Night-Time Uniform Patrol Service provide a crucial role in protecting residents of the borough. We know that crime and anti-social behaviour are more prevalent at night, and that this is when our residents feel least safe, which is why the Council’s new Joint Administration has pledged to go further to protect people at all times of day. We have listened to residents’ concerns and will continue to put their safety as our top priority while we clean up the borough and make Southwark safer.”
