Southwark Liberal Democrat Win as Council Distributes Free School Uniforms
Southwark’s Liberal Democrat and Green Joint Administration will distribute thousands of free school uniforms in Southwark to those who need it most, following a long-standing Liberal Democrat policy to do so.
Southwark Liberal Democrats in 2023 called for free school uniforms to be distributed across Southwark, following from Liberal Democrat-run Sutton’s successful scheme.
The programme – operating in partnership with charities PECAN and Donate to Educate – will allow families in receipt of Free School Meals to collect free uniforms from the Ann Bernadt SEND family hub in Peckham.
Commenting, Southwark Liberal Democrat Group Leader Cllr Victor Chamberlain said:
“This is a huge win for our campaign, and will make a massive difference to families at the sharpest end of the cost of living crisis.
Tackling the cost of living was one of our top priorities coming into this Joint Administration, and this is us taking serious action to support families most in need in Southwark.
Everyone deserves a great start in life. Families should not have to struggle to provide the most basic items for their children, so I’m delighted that this scheme has launched to ensure that children and families across our communities can access vital essentials, regardless of their circumstances.”
