Southwark Liberal Democrats Launch Campaign to Save Southwark Bridge Road’s Post Office
Southwark Liberal Democrats have today launched a campaign to save the Post Office inside the Co-op on Southwark Bridge Road. The shop, which is within the Liberal Democrat ward of Borough & Bankside, is a vital community asset for residents across northern Southwark, especially vulnerable residents who may be at risk of digital exclusion. The Councillors, Victor Chamberlian, David Watson, and Hellen Benavides, have started a petition, with hopes of showing the Post Office just how valuable the service is for the local area.
Enquiries undertaken by Liberal Democrat Councillors have found that the future of the Post Office is uncertain following the Co-op’s decision to close the store from which the Post Office operates in July 2027. This concerning news follows a similar Liberal Democrat campaign last year which successfully saved the London Bridge Post Office from the threat of closure.
Commenting, Southwark Liberal Democrat Councillor for Borough & Bankside, Victor Chamberlain, said:
“The news that the future of the Southwark Bridge Road Post Office is under threat will be extremely concerning to local residents. This is a local service used by local people every day, and any decision regarding its future must be taken in the most careful of manners.
I am proud that the Southwark Liberal Democrats were able to put a stop to the proposed closure of the London Bridge Post Office last year; I am hopeful we will be able to repeat that success here. I urge anyone who has used this Post Office, or who may benefit from it in the future, to please sign our petition to Save our Post Office.”
