Community skips to be introduced in Southwark

Southwark Council has today announced that it will introduce community skips – after a long running campaign and manifesto commitment from the Southwark Liberal Democrats.  

The scheme – introduced under the new Liberal Democrat and Green Joint Administration – will begin with a pilot in Surrey Quays in October, with further details coming soon. The scheme will then be rolled out across the borough in the new year. 

Residents will be able to responsibly dispose of items such as white goods and furniture for free during Community Skip Days.  

Commenting, Liberal Democrat Councillor Graham Neale said:  

“Liberal Democrats in Southwark have been campaigning for community skips for years – so I’m delighted that the Joint Administration has delivered yet another manifesto commitment.  

Flytipping is an issue that repeatedly comes up on the doorstep – and plagues our streets and estates. Along with more enforcement, it’s great to be able to make it easier for people to dispose of their bulky waste in a more responsible, more environmentally friendly way”
