London Bridge Post Office SAVED

The London Bridge Post Office has been saved from closure following a successful campaign by local Liberal Democrats.
The branch was one of 115 directly managed “Crown” post offices identified by Post Office Ltd. for franchising. The move, initiated under the Labour Government, has led to months of uncertainty for staff and residents across the country.
In response, the Liberal Democrats launched a local petition, spoke to hundreds of residents, and engaged directly with Post Office Ltd. to push for the branch to remain open.
Post Office Ltd. has now confirmed that the London Bridge branch will continue to operate from its current location. It will be transferred to Universal Office Equipment (UK) Ltd. (UOE), run by experienced postmaster Elliot Jacobs.
However, concerns remain about the wider implications of the franchising programme. Only around half of the 115 branches earmarked for transfer have been confirmed so far, and the future of East Dulwich Post Office remains uncertain.
Liberal Democrats are writing to Post Office Ltd. to demand urgent clarity on the status of the East Dulwich branch and assurances that no communities will be left without access to essential postal services.
Cllr Victor Chamberlain, Leader of the Southwark Liberal Democrat Group said:
“This is a significant victory for our community and a testament to the hundreds of residents who stood with us.
We’ve been campaigning for months to protect this service, and we’re pleased Post Office Ltd. has listened. But the Labour Government should never have allowed this situation to develop in the first place, vital services like this should never be thrown into doubt.
We’ll be writing to the Post Office to ensure that East Dulwich’s Post Office will also be part of this programme, and the future of this essential service is secured.”
