Labour Southwark dishes out more £100,000+ pay packages than any other local authority in Britain

Liberal Democrat Councillors have been left stunned after it was revealed that Labour run Southwark Council has the highest number of staff on pay packages above £100,000 of any local authority across Britain.

The list, complied by the campaign group TaxPayers’ Alliance (TPA), also revealed that Southwark has increased the number of staff who received remuneration in excess of £100,000 by over 26 in the past year, again more than any other council in Britain.

With tough decisions currently being made across the borough on where to prioritise limited resources, the decision to pay out inflated packages to staff has disappointed many including leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, Anood Al-Samerai, who added:

“At a time when many in the public sector are seeing their salaries stagnate, it astonishes me that Labour run Southwark can splash out on bolstered pay packages for council directors.”

“Many local authorities have taken the sensible decision to reduce the number of staff on pay packages in excess of £100,000 to reflect the difficult time financial times we are currently in - Southwark, on the other hand, have increased the number by 26. This is more than any other council in not just London but across the UK only highlighting how out of touch Labour currently are with local residents.”
