A Remembrance and Armistice Day message from MP Simon Hughes:
This week I want to pay tribute to those who have devoted themselves to serving our country.
We remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice of laying down their lives to enable us to live ours. From the soldiers of the Great Wars to the men and women who faithfully serve in our armed forces today - we owe them our gratitude.
Not only do we think of those who serve in active duty but we also remember the friends and family of our soldiers who have lost their loved ones in the line of duty and we stand with them to honour the sacrifice they have made.
To mark Remembrance Sunday this week I attended the services in my constituency at Borough High Street and at the Soviet War Memorial in Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park, where I also spoke for peace. I went also to the events at the Royal British Legion and Stansfeld clubs. The Remembrance Day services were moving and well attended. I was also privileged on Monday to join the Mayor. veterans and many others including pupils from Albion, Peter Hills and St James' School at the Bermondsey and Rotherhithe War Memorial to mark Armistice Day.
Look at pictures of the ceremony after the break.
