Southwark Park users can enjoy a new activity after local Liberal Democrat councillors helped fund new table tennis tables there.
Two new concrete table tennis tables were installed in the park at the end of last month and they have been a big success already proving popular with residents. It is the first time that table tennis has been available in Southwark Park.
The new tables were only made possible after Riverside Liberal Democrat councillors agreed to use £5,000 of their community budget. The funding was agreed at the March meeting of the Bermondsey & Rotherhithe community council.
Riverside ward Liberal Democrat councillor Eliza Mann said:
“It’s great to see people using the new table tennis tables in Southwark Park. As the local councillors we were happy to fund this project to make it happen.
“Now residents can enjoy a new activity and it’s good that the tables were installed in time for the summer holidays. People can also be inspired by the table tennis action at the Rio Olympics!
“Along with all the other improvements that the Friends of Southwark Park have fought for over the years, Southwark Park just gets better and better.”
