Liberal Democrat councillors have said they "could not be more delighted" after hearing that a new school will be opening on the site of the former East Dulwich Police Station.
The announcement of a new school was made by the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) at a City Hall meeting last night (Thursday 30 January).
It comes after months of campaigning by local Liberal Democrat councillors in East Dulwich, who have been fighting for a new school to help fill the growing shortage of school places in the area.
Commenting, Liberal Democrat councillor East Dulwich Cllr James Barber, said:
"I could not be more delighted that the Harris Federation, working with the Department for Education and the London Assembly, has come up trumps with a new primary school in East Dulwich."
"I'd like to thank all those local families who have trusted us and lent us their support in our campaign to find a permanent site and make this happen. The prospect of a school run by providers with a strong track record of pupil attainment will offer an outstanding start for local children’s education."
