Cleaner streets - Fighting your corner

Labour-run Southwark Council has introduced a £16 charge each time you want your bulky waste collected.  The service used to be free.  Bulky waste includes things like furniture, household appliances and electrical goods.

It was never in Labour’s election manifesto to charge residents for bulky waste collections and it wasn’t included in their council budget plans this year.

We believe that keeping our streets clean is one of the most basic things the Council needs to get right.  This new charge will just mean some people dump their rubbish in the street and flytipping will increase.

The Council justifies its plan by saying it will help them make an extra £175,000.  But Liberal Democrats believe the move is bad for our local environment and will cost the Council more to clean up any new flytipping.

Southwark Liberal Democrats are fighting residents' corner on keeping our streets and estates clean.  We believe the Council should drop its £16 waste collection charge.  Join our campaign to make bulky waste collections free again in Southwark and keep our streets free from flytipping.  Sign our petition below.
