£16,000 splashed out on recruiting new Southwark spin doctor

Liberal Democrats Councillors have been left shocked after it was revealed that £16,000 has been spent on the search for a new Head of External Affairs at Southwark Council.

The position of Head of External Affairs, which could pay just over £93,000, is close to being filled after a lengthy recruitment process. Described as ‘a new role reporting to the chief executive’, the soon to be announced communications guru is being brought in to manage external and internal communications and firefight any PR blunders that the Council may experience.

Councillor Anood Al-Samerai, Leader of the Southwark Liberal Democrats, said:

“At a time when we are repeatedly being told by the Labour administration that money is tight and needs to be saved in order to support frontline services, it seems ludicrous that £16,000 has been spent on the recruitment process for a spin doctor at Southwark Council.”
